Tyler Man Gets Prison Sentence for 2021 Vehicular Death

On May 04, 2023, in the 114th District Court, Jose Manuel Esparza plead guilty to manslaughter for the death of Pablo Avila and was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Austin Reeve Jackson.

Esparza was charged with manslaughter relating to an incident that occurred on October 14, 2021. Esparza was driving a Corvette over 100 mph on the 2200 block of WSW Loop 323 when he collided with a pickup truck causing it to spin and stop in the median. Subsequently, the Corvette crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle traveling east on the Loop. As a result of the collision, Pablo Avila, his passenger, sustained critical injuries and tragically passed away.

The 114th District Court’s decision sends a clear message that reckless driving and disregard for traffic laws will not be tolerated in our community. Judge Austin Reeve Jackson remains committed to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of all citizens. This case serves as a reminder that each individual has a responsibility to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to protect both their lives and the lives of others.
