Grassroots America : We the People endorses Reeve Jackson for 114th District Court Judge of Smith County

TYLER – Grassroots America’s Executive Director JoAnn Fleming announced the organization’s endorsement of Austin Reeve Jackson for Judge of the 114th District Court in Smith County. This was the organization’s first endorsement for the March 3rd primary election. The full endorsement was distributed to Grassroots America members on Friday, December 20, 2019, as stated below:

After extensive questioning, the Board of Directors of Grassroots America is convinced that Austin Reeve Jackson is the right choice for District Judge of the 114th Judicial District.

We were most impressed with Mr. Jackson’s command of the full realm of responsibilities of a District Court Judge.  He is knowledgeable about the caseload history of the 114th District Court, civil and criminal justice trends, and possesses a very detailed understanding of the administrative and budgetary duties of the office.  He understands the need for a District Court Judge to work with the Smith County District Attorney, law enforcement and the Commissioners Court to provide the highest quality service to the taxpayers of Smith County at the very best price. He spoke in depth about a variety of ways he would work with judicial colleagues, attorneys, Sheriff Smith and the Commissioners Court to decrease jail and court operational costs while pursuing justice for victims of crime.

Mr. Jackson’s experience and recognition in the legal field is impressive. Prior to founding The Jackson Law Firm in 2008, he worked at law firms practicing both civil and criminal law in East and Central Texas.  In 2012, he became the youngest attorney in Texas to be double board certified in both criminal law and criminal appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He was the 2013 Smith County Young Lawyer of the Year and has nine times been named a Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star, which is an honor bestowed upon the top 2.5% of Texas attorneys.

Mr. Jackson’s membership in the Federalist Society speaks of his judicial philosophy. We find it refreshing that a man his age can so ably articulate his belief that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is
the clear authority and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is – not what a jurist believes it should be.

In questioning folks from all walks of life who know Mr. Jackson, he has the reputation of being a man of strong character and faith who values public service.  A review of his strong Republican voting record debunks rumors about his political leanings.  He is known for his attention to detail, his writing ability, high energy and distaste for a commonly found attitude characterized as “black robe syndrome.”

Reeve Jackson is an enthusiastic thinker who has the vision and passion for the job, the ability, experience, knowledge, and integrity to apply the law, while holding firmly to the underpinnings of the US and Texas Constitutions.
We are confident Reeve Jackson will be a most distinguished jurist for Smith County’s 114th District Court.

Jackson responded to the endorsement announcement, “Having spent my career defending the Constitution, it is deeply meaningful to have the support of an organization that has demonstrated their commitment to the same. I am proud to call many of their members friends and supporters and look forward to the GREAT things in store for Smith County as we work together to build the type of community we all desire.”

The candidates running for the 114th District Court Judge seat have participated in two candidate forums so far, the first of which was hosted by Grassroots America on November 12th as a part of their local candidate vetting process.

Grassroots America, founded in 2009, is the largest conservative citizen organization in East Texas and has garnered statewide influence due to its legislative work in Austin.
