Waco Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Involvement in 2020 Shooting Death of East Texas Motorcyclist
November 8, 2023 - Tyler, TX - Joshua Ray Tibbits of Waco was sentenced to 45 years in prison in Judge Austin Reeve Jackon’s Court for his role in the death of East Texas motorcyclist Brandon Edwards. Tibbits was found guilty of engaging in organized crime after a trial in the 114th District Court.
The incident, which occurred in the Chapel Hill area on May 2, 2020, resulted in Edwards being shot while riding his motorcycle, which was being pursued by Tibbits and two others in a truck. The two others, Jose Antonio Valenzuela and Jeffery Ryan Griffin were also sentenced to 22 years in prison for their involvement in Edwards' death. All individuals were part of a motorcycle club, with Edwards identified as a member of the 1%er Cossacks Motorcycle Club Rose City Chapter.
Further details emerged during the investigation, including the presence of Tibbits and Griffin at Valenzuela's residence before the shooting. Tibbits, identified as a Regional Sergeant at Arms, and Griffin, a Sergeant at Arms for the Limestone County Cossack chapter, were implicated in handling internal club affairs.
